Bronisław Zygfryd Nowicki

1907–1981

Graphic designer, drafter, painter and medallist. He settled in Bydgoszcz in 1920 where he finished State Humanities High School. He started studying medicine (1926-1928) and law (1929-1934) at the University in Poznan. He fought in the September campaign. In the years 1940-1945, he was a captive in the oflag in Woldenberg. He has been a member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers since 1945 as well as many other organizations such as the Society of the City of Bydgoszcz Enthusiasts. In the years 1932-1939, he created commercial graphics. After the war, he devoted himself to artistic work.

He presented his works at almost 45 solo exhibitions. He participated in numerous nationwide and international exhibitions. He made many artistic trips. He won prizes in various competitions and received numerous state distinctions, from the military and the state association of artists. In 1975, he received the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. He created drawings, artistic and utilitarian graphics, medals and, since 1972, also paintings. He dealt with wood engraving and longitudinal engraving as well as linocut. Since 1948, he made over a hundred of them.

The most abundant part of his heritage are drawings – studio works, sketches, notes from numerous trips around the country and abroad. His works are included in many collections in Poland and abroad.
